Executive Applications 2015-2016
It's that time of year again! The executive elections for Chess In The Library for the 2015-2016 term have officially begun. Please read the following post carefully for the full campaign rules, as well as executive roles and responsibilities.
Campaign Rules:
The campaign of all candidates is limited to two forms: a written platform submitted to the official CITL blog that will be presented as a 2 minute speech to CITL volunteers on June 27th prior to the Annual Festival. All other campaigns are strictly prohibited in order to maintain equity and equality.
Positions:
President: The President acts as the leader and primary spokesperson of the CITL Executive Board. He or she sets a typed agenda in consultation with other executive members for all formal CITL Executive Board meetings. One of the President’s main responsibilities is to contact potential locations and expand the program nationwide. In addition, the President evaluates annually the performance of the organization in achieving its mandate.
Vice-President: The Vice-President acts as the secondary spokesperson of the CITL Executive Board and fills in for the President when the President is not available. When not filling in for the President, the Vice President shall act as the Chief of Internal Affairs. He or she sets dates for all formal CITL Executive Board meetings on a monthly or bi-monthly basis, including those concerned with the annual festival. In addition, the Vice-President is responsible for crafting press-releases and for constructing any written documents, including pots on the official CITL blog and Facebook page.
Treasurer: The Treasurer is responsible for contacting potential sponsors and donors as well as managing all CITL finances. This individual drafts a budget (to be completed before the end of August) in consultation with the President and constructs an official budget report (to be completed at the end of the following July),outlining all expenses and revenues, as well as recommendations for the succeeding executives. Moreover, the Treasurer directs any fundraising events and is in charge of the cashbox or donation box during those events.
Volunteer Coordinator: The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for handling volunteer applications, directing successful applicants to the most appropriate library branches, arranging for necessary training, responding to volunteer’s queries and signing volunteer-hours when the relevant branch is unable to do so. Furthermore, he or she is also responsible for the recruitment and maintenance of a steady flow of volunteers.

Secretary: The Secretary is responsible for receiving, replying and managing all messages that are sent to Chess in the Library both online and in person. Additionally, the Secretary is in charge of taking minutes during CITL Executive Council meetings. The Secretary is also in charge of assisting in online promotion for Chess in the Library.

Any candidate who wishes to run for the 2015-2016 CITL Executive Council must submit a written platform between 300-500 words to info@chessinthelibrary.com by June 25th at 11:59pm. Late applications will be rejected at the discrimination of the current CITL Executive Council. All candidates will be notified if there are any changes to the rules and procedure.
If you wish to apply for the President position, you must have served at least one year on the junior executive or executive council to run.

CITL Annual Festival 2015
It's almost that time of the year again, our annual festival! Are all you chess players out there ready for this excitement and fun filled day? Well you certainly do not have to wait much longer, as CITL will be hosting our annual festival from 11AM-4PM on June 27th, 2015 at the North York Central Library. Everybody is welcome to attend! It will be an amazing day filled with many different rounds of chess, awards, and games and puzzles. Pizza will also be sold there so no worries about what to eat! So come to our annual festival to kick off your amazing summer! More information will be on the poster.

New CITL Branch, Recruiting Volunteers!

Spring Open Tournament Canceled!

CITL Spring Open Tournament
Hello all chess players! Though we recently held our East Region Tournament, CITL is bringing to you our Spring Open Tournament on March 28th. Unlike our other tournaments, this tournament will be CFC rated, and so we want all serious participants to compete. The tournament will take place at Senator O’Connor College School, at 60 Rowena Drive, free parking will be provided. The tournament will be taking place from approximately 10AM-4PM, and cash prizes will be awarded to top 3 competitors. However, there will be an application fee of $30 for participants, and $20 for juniors. We will be asking Mike Ivanov, a professional chess player, to compete in this tournament. East Region Tournament 2015
Calling all chess players, Chess in the Library is about to host our annual East Region Tournament! The tournament will take place on February 28th 2015, from 11AM-4PM at Fairview Library. It will be a very exciting day filled with tons of rounds of chess against many other competitors of your age group. Top 3 competitors from each section will receive medals, as well everyone will be receiving a certificate for simply participating! Feeling hungry? No problem!
